WHEN SHOULD I GO TO SHOWCASE CAMPS and Prospect Days??
AND, HOW MANY SHOULD I GO TO??
As you know, attending individual showcase camps (or college prospect days) is highly recommended for those players that want to play in college. I have already gone into why these camps are a good compliment to the Skipjack team tournaments, so I won't go into detail on that again. However, I do think there is some legitimate questions about when the right time to attend these camps is (Freshman Year? Sophomore Year? Junior year?). While it is not an exact science hear is my informed opinion:
Freshman Year Fall: Not necessary to attend a showcase camp unless you are a strong Div 1 candidate (and even then it is not critical)
Freshman Summer: Not critical at all for most players, but wouldn't be a bad idea for either:
A) Players that are lock Div 1 prospects. Or, More Likely,
B) Those that just want to get a taste of what they are all about.
Sophomore Fall: Not critical, but wouldn't be a bad idea for either:
A) Those that want to get a taste of what they are all about and maybe grab some early interest from a college or two. Picking a smaller local showcase camp would make sense...
B) Those players who are lock Div 1 (or close enough to it) and really want to play Div 1
You should go to at least one showcase camp. If you are interested in playing Div 1, you should go to two.
Also could look into prospect days if you know what schools you are interested in.
You should go to at least one showecase camp. If you are interested in playing Div 1, you should go to two. Also, many schools will have prospect days in the fall and you should be proactive asking the schools you are interested in if they are hosting any.
You could go to two showcase camps. By this time you should have a good idea of what colleges you could see yourself playing at and you can be very targeted as to the showcases you go to.
Uncommitted players should be very targeted and ask the schools they are interested in where/when they need to go to get seen by them.
